Moringa-Derived Compounds & Oral Health Research

Suwon University Research Program

Selected for a research program at the University of Suwon after submitting a research proposal, and designed and conducted an independent laboratory experiment investigating the antibacterial effects of Moringa oleifera leaf extract on Streptococcus mutans, a bacterium associated with dental plaque formation and enamel demineralization. Prepared a 0.02% moringa solution and tested its effects on bacterial cultures in 96-well plates, varying the extract volume from 0 to 100 μL and measuring bacterial growth on Days 0 and 7. The results showed the strongest inhibitory effect at extract volumes of 70–100 μL, suggesting that moringa-derived bioactive compounds may have potential as natural agents for oral care. The research was published in the International Young Researchers’ Conference Journal on November 20, 2025.

2026 Scholars Circle Research Summit

Received the Silver Award at the 2026 Scholars Circle Research Summit for presenting my research on moringa-derived compounds and their potential applications in oral health. Based on my published paper, the presentation summarized the study’s research question, experimental approach, and findings on the antibacterial effects of moringa leaf extract against Streptococcus mutans. Submitted a five-minute presentation video and accompanying PowerPoint slides for evaluation by the competition judges.

Columbia University IYRC Medical Research Program

Invited to participate in the Columbia University IYRC Medical Research Program following the publication of my oral health research in the IYRC Journal. Explored topics including anatomy, neuroscience, mental health, medical ethics, and clinical medicine through lectures led by physicians, researchers, and medical students. Also completed workshops in literature review, data analysis, and research paper development.

Dental Internship

Seoul Star Dental Clinic

Completed a six-week clinical shadowing placement at Seoul Star Dental Clinic for 2 years, totaling around 100 hours, to gain firsthand exposure to the daily work of a dental practice. Shadowed a dentist during clinical procedures and patient consultations, while observing the clinic’s daily operations and the different responsibilities involved in providing dental care. The experience also introduced me to key aspects of clinical practice, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and preventive care. Through observing these activities in a real clinical setting, I developed a clearer understanding of how dentists apply their knowledge in patient care and gained valuable insight into the practical demands of the dental profession.
